SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio Police Department is investigating a shooting that killed one on the South Side Monday afternoon.
The incident took place around 1:15 p.m. on the 100 block of W. Vestal Place near Pleasanton Road. This block is just south of I-35 in the Patton Tareyton Tempo neighborhood.
Police said the man was doing work on his house when a car drove by the house. Two or three individuals got out of the car, called out to him by name, and then began to beat the man up.
San Antonio Man Killed After Firing Shots in Self-Defense
The victim pulled a gun and fired shots at the suspects, who then ran back to their vehicle and retrieved a gun. The suspects fired several rounds at the victim, hitting him twice. Then, the victim was rushed to San Antonio Military Medical Center with multiple gunshot wounds. Unfortunately, he later succumbed to his injuries, showing the limits of using firearms for self defense.
Police say that evidence at the scene points to one of the suspects may have been shot as well. They found blood spatter in multiple places, indicating that the man at least hit one or two of the suspects. However, it wasn’t enough to save his life.
The suspects fled the scene in a black Ford Focus. While these cars are very common, if you see any Focus drivers acting erratically, you might want to stay away from them. They could spell problems for you and your family.
The Police Department of San Antonio continues the investigation of the incident. Of course, the investigation will likely take quite a bit of time. Catching criminals is incredibly hard work, especially if you have nothing to go off of other than the description of the vehicle that they used.
