SAN ANTONIO, Texas — A North Side driver ran a red light and crashed into a police cruiser late Wednesday night. The man sent one officer to the hospital, although the officer had no major injuries. Now, the driver will likely face some serious charges.

The accident was reported just before 11 p.m. on East Elmira Street near McCullough Avenue, which is located on the city’s North Side.

According to police, a man driving a silver Mustang ran a red light and t-boned an officer. The officer was driving eastbound on McCullough.

The officer was taken to Methodist Hospital as a precaution. However, it doesn’t appear as though the officer’s life is in any serious danger. This is very lucky given the circumstances of the crash.

San Antonio Driver Likely to Face Charges

The driver of the Mustang didn’t have any injuries. Police at the scene did not say what, if any charges the driver may face. However, it seems very unlikely that he won’t face any charges at all. After all, not only did he break the law, he injured a police officer while doing so. That’s a double whammy for a prosecutor to zero in on.

Like it or not, we live in a society where our justice system accommodates a fair amount of personal relationships. When an incident like this involves a police officer, it’s far more likely to get prosecuted. This is because county prosecutors want to make sure they can maintain their relationships with the police force. This helps them obtain the police’s cooperation in other cases where they may need it.

While this isn’t a perfect way to dispense justice by any stretch, we hope this driver faces consequences for his actions. He’d better hope that he has good insurance coverage to pay for the damage!
